This seminar presents my recent intellectual exploration (together with collaboration with colleagues in various areas) of a newly defined area of research extending the traditional definition of strategy. The central theme of this research – hence this seminar – is that Chinese firms may develop a coherent strategy that combines strategic response complexity and strategic synthesis simplicity as they cope with a complex and evolving institutional environment while utilizing basic tenets of Chinese cultural values in doing so. Those firms that are able to develop such an innovative strategic approach may then be in a position to enjoy significant competitive advantages. During the seminar I will also examine the theoretical and empirical challenges in developing such a model.
