My exchange experience at HEC Paris was an incredibly rewarding journey that enriched me both academically and personally.

Academically, I observed that European institutions place a strong emphasis on sustainability and ESG-related topics. I enrolled in the Greentech course, which covered fields like sustainable finance and impact investing, significantly broadening my perspective. The professor integrated real-world cases to explore ESG investing and corporate social responsibility (CSR), deepening my appreciation for Europe’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. As part of the course, I collaborated with a team to develop and present a business plan for a Greentech startup. This experience honed my research and presentation skills while strengthening my understanding of green finance.

Culturally, I actively participated in events such as International Cultural Day and end-of-term gatherings organized by the school. These opportunities allowed me to connect with peers from diverse backgrounds, exchange cultural perspectives, and forge lasting friendships. Beyond the classroom, I joined company visits, including trips to ESG-focused venture capital firms in Paris. These experiences provided me with firsthand insights into ESG practices from a business standpoint and expanded my understanding of French workplace culture.

On a personal level, the exchange was transformative. Adapting to life in France, I learned to handle daily tasks independently—from renting an apartment and cooking to navigating public transportation. I also traveled solo to countries like Switzerland and Iceland. Though these trips came with challenges, such as schedule changes, language barriers, and unexpected setbacks, they greatly enhanced my adaptability and problem-solving skills. Witnessing the Northern Lights in Iceland and the snow-capped peaks of Switzerland left an indelible mark on me, not only for their breathtaking beauty but also for the enduring friendships I formed along the way.

My time at HEC was more than just an academic and cultural exchange—it was a journey of self-discovery. I will carry these memories and lessons back to Tsinghua and sincerely hope more students can embark on such a transformative experience.
